Davare Primary School

In March 2012 ZRSDP visited Davare and identified it as the next school for ZRSDP’s focus. We made a plan to build, over two years, classroom blocks, teachers’ accommodation.

We also planned to provide clean water and sanitation for the school. The first stages of engagement with the school’s headmaster and PTA began during this trip.

James Easen described on his visit that “Davare is approx. 20km away from Makowe. It is approached by a very poor “road”, approx. 2km off the main dirt track between Makowe and Chidamoyo. The teachers and SDC came to Makowe the day we were there to ask us if there was anything we could do for their school, so we agreed to visit their school and take a look. The school was extremely basic and needed a lot of work done to it. It seems the local community, SDC and teachers are all committed. Selecting Davare would allow ZRSDP to build an entire school from nothing and would ensure local children, some as young as 6, don’t have to walk the 12-16 km every day just to go to school.”

Davare’s first classroom block was finished in June 2013. Our project included 2-3 x double classroom blocks, 2 x F14 teachers accommodation and installation of a secure a water supply.
